Borewell Rules, Regulations, Permission and guidelines in Bihar

Bihar Borewell Drilling guidelines

The rules and regulations for borewell drilling in Bihar may vary, and it is important to consult the local authorities or relevant departments to obtain accurate and up-to-date information. However, here are some general guidelines that are often followed:

1. Permission and Registration: Prior permission and registration may be required from the concerned authority or department before drilling a borewell. It is advisable to contact the local Municipal Corporation, Panchayat, or Water Resources Department to inquire about the specific procedure and requirements for obtaining permission.
2. Depth and Diameter: There may be restrictions on the depth and diameter of the borewell. The specifications for depth and diameter may vary depending on the location, hydrogeological conditions, and regulations set by the local authority or water resources department. It is important to adhere to these specifications to ensure the sustainability of groundwater resources.
3. Qualified Drillers: Borewell drilling should be carried out by qualified and licensed drillers who have experience in drilling and are aware of the safety measures to be followed. It is recommended to engage experienced drillers who comply with the safety standards and guidelines.
4. Site Selection: Careful consideration should be given to selecting the site for borewell drilling. Factors such as proximity to contamination sources, existing borewells in the vicinity, and potential impacts on groundwater resources should be assessed before finalizing the drilling location.
5. No Objection Certificate (NOC): Depending on the location and specific regulations, obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned authority may be required before drilling a borewell. The NOC certifies that there are no objections from the local authority or neighboring residents regarding borewell drilling.
6. Electrical Safety: If the borewell drilling involves electrical equipment, it is essential to ensure proper electrical safety measures are followed to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with electrical regulations.
7. Water Extraction and Usage: After drilling a borewell, it is important to use the extracted groundwater judiciously and sustainably. Excessive extraction can lead to a decline in groundwater levels and cause adverse environmental impacts. Adherence to water usage regulations and conservation practices is necessary.
8. Regular Maintenance: Borewells should be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure their proper functioning. Periodic monitoring of water quality and quantity is recommended to detect any potential issues and take necessary actions.
